Magestik Legend has been a presence on the Detroit rap scene for a good amount of time, as a part of the 925 Colony (no officially released music) and as an up and coming solo artist. Magestik has worked with the likes of eLZhi, Athletic Mic League, and One Be Lo. Since 2007 Magestik has released three projects which were free off charge: FREE Magestik Legend, To Be Continued…Part 1(hosted by T3) and To Be Continued…Part 2 (hosted by Rapper Big Pooh). M.L. seems to be setting the stage to take his career to the next level with his up and coming album: The Great Escape.

I had the chance ask the Detroit emcee a few questions about the projects he’s got going on as well as the Detroit rap scene.

HipHopReview.net: On To Be Continued…Chapter 2 you talk a lot about copy cat rappers on the track “Carbon” With everybody mimicking each other these days have you found it hard to stay true to yourself and never waiver from your own style?

CMJ 2010 (Quick Flashback) (NYC)

Here’s a quick Flashback of ML’s activities at the 2010 CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival in NYC. CMJ blasted off on Tuesday, October 19 and ran until Saturday, October 23.

Magestik, accompanied by NY’s own DJ Audible Doctor, was one of the headliners for the Quality Control Showcase on Wednesday, October 20 at Southpaw in Brooklyn, NY. This showcase was sponsored by Quality Control Marketing and FWMJ’s RappersIKnow.com. The lineup consisted of a vast array of assorted indie talent from all across the US.

All in All it looks like ML had a Great time from rocking CMJ showcases to partying at Q-Tip’s Annual Shindig with our friend FWMJ and running into Hometown Favs Dwele, Que D, Ro-Spit and Ron Dance…we’d say it was a Trip well spent. “The Great Escape Motion Picture Contest”

We are officially in the one-month countdown until The Great Escape drops, and already our inbox is jam packed with Great Escape ‘stuff’ from tastemakers, bloggers, and supporters.

Among the ‘stuff’ we got regarding The Great Escape was an AMAZING video montage created by an ML fan for the song “Scream”, which is one of Magestik’s favorite tracks off the album! We’re still not sure how this fan got the track, but the video is undeniably awesome and just in time for Halloween!”

ML says:

“I received a random email from a fan and supporter who apparently got his hands on my song SCREAM from “The Great Escape” promo Cds my Team mailed out a week or so ago. I didn’t trip. Its actually pretty dope and perfect for Halloween. Shouts to Dwight! Whutupdoe…”
